Reconfiguring Regional Dynamics: Pakistan-China Interests in Post-US Withdrawal Afghanistan

Following the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 a power vacuum developed which led regional actors specifically Pakistan and China to intensify their interest in the country. This study examines the joint and conflicting priorities which Pakistan and China pursue following the American military pullout from Afghanistan. Pakistan focuses on national security and domestic stability because the Afghan Taliban might establish connections with Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The Chinese government wants to defend its Belt and Road Initiative investments while stopping Uyghur extremist activities and growing its economic presence throughout the region. This analysis investigates the evolving Afghan situation and its impact on Pakistan-China relations while exploring its effects on regional safety and worldwide geopolitical structure. The analysis shows that joint cooperation in Afghanistan can support regional stability yet competing interests between these nations might generate tension. This research analyzes official statements and policy documents and expert opinions through qualitative methods. This research will enhance the understanding of Afghanistan's post-US withdrawal regional complexities to help guide policy making among Pakistan and China together with additional interested countries. This analysis examines the Pakistan-China relationship in Afghanistan to reveal insights regarding future developments in regional political dynamics and security frameworks.
